Abundance Painting

This painting was one of two and became a first step into the realm of abstract- expression that I had ever taken. I was painting onto a primed duvet cover that had a beautiful pattern on it. (I like the idea of this painting being painted on a practical everyday item) At the time I was interested in pattern as a form of art. I wanted to let art be submissive to the viewer; to honour its guest, after all, what is art without someone to appreciate it? Pattern, in it's decorative nature seemed to be perfect for that role, with the humility to be overlooked but enough beauty to be respected in and of itself. Each brush stroke in this work is a transparent expression of the artists mind. It is called 'Abundance' because it was roughly formed around the pattern found in leaves, the concept of fruit and having more than enough.
