Accepting the I AM. 48” x 48 “ acrylic and dress pattern tissue on wood My HUNGRY GHOST comes from feeling like an IMPOSITION. I was imprinted, early in life, with the notion that I was an " IMPOSITION " on my family. My parents ended arguments with, "Well, you can always leave". I always shut myself in my bedroom in tears, no one ever came to comfort or reason with me and then there was silence. Physical hugging or outward expressions of love were absent. Being raised in a Chinese American family with a history of ancestral trauma, how could my parents have done any better? Moving beyond blame or shame, I use art to shine a spotlight on my Hungry Ghosts. I accept them, take responsibility for them, feed them in healthy ways, thank them for being my teachers and set them free. Choosing to define I AM from a spiritual perspective versus a religious reference, I AM for me refers to an understanding that I am inherently connected to the larger Universe, an integral component of Spirit, guided and gifted. This is the Spirit that resides inside every human heart and is the heart of the Universe and beyond. “You are never an imposition. You are here on purpose. We mistakenly *think what others *think of us, we *think we are. Boundaries derived from our genetics, cultural heritage and life experiences and relationships are learning tools to mold us for our life’s work, not to block us. You do not need approval from others., You are invaluable. In your stillness within, you understand who you are and awaken to the possibilities of your existence. We are a spiritual being having a human experience. I AM”
