About The Artwork

• This abstract shows my own classical interpretation of how Adonis' face looked like when he grew up to become a handsome young man. I painted a side view of his face looking west, using gold against a background of rainbow colors. • According to Greek mythology, Adonis was born out of wedlock, resulting from an incestuous sexual relationship between Cirynas, the King of Cyprus, and his own attractive young daughter named Smyrna. Mythological leading ladies Aphrodite (Goddess of love, beauty, joy, and pleasure - for whom Venus de Milo was modeled) and Persephone (Queen of the Underworld) were so fond of Adonis while he was a young, beautiful boy. • For some reason, Aphrodite left Adonis to Persephone to raise, and when Adonis grew up to become a very attractive, handsome young man, he became a lover to both women, for 6 months of separate frolicking sexual dalliance with each. • As a naive artist who does not know much of the sex episodes in the Greek mythology, I venture to believe that the story on Adonis is an example of weird, sexy, erotic, and titillating fantasies that might have partly inspired so many famous lusty and iconic artists like Picasso, Dali, Van Gough, and many others I don't even know. • What do you think?
