About The Artwork

"Adventurous site as an idea of liberty" series is a vast array of small-form works on the idea we have of the places we remember from our childhood that leave a trace of strangeness that we associate with the lightness of idyllic time. . As far as landscapes are concerned, there is an inability to make absolutely accurate records by memory, I accept as valid that the void of oblivion now becomes filled with matter recorded in multiple places in a way that appears to be random but not meaningless. Thus, the landscape is a sum of two realities, one close to the observed motif that remains in memory and another constructed by fragments that replace what was subtracted by forgetting. This reconstruction process is an intuitive perception that defines the way I represent what is around me.

"My work is deeply linked with the world around me. Everything I do is inspired in lived experience, places I see, booksI read, people I met, all that are buildings blooks of the constructions I made, I see them as special models of tension, a "momento" that yelds the power of tranformation." Julio Alves has produced a diverse body of work that includes painting, drawing, installation and sculpture. With his studio based in Estoril, in the portuguese atlantic coast, he has developed his activity for nearly three decades and has carried out several solo and group exhibitions. With an academic background in architecture, subsequently studied painting at the Society of Fine Arts of Lisbon and in recent years has been devoted entirely to painting. It was during the last decade that he continually has developed the theme of the landscape that is still the core of his work.
