About the Artist

Anastasiia Ravaeva

India

Artist, explorer, and traveler. Works in painting and graphic arts.
Since 2025, she has been working on the «Mystery of Tsam» series. Tsam is a ceremonial religious service in the form of dance, performed outdoors in Buddhist monasteries (datsans). Mystery is characteristic of Tibetan Buddhism, presumably rooted in the Tibetan Bon religion. The purpose is to demonstrate the presence of the deity on earth and ward off evil spirits from the followers of Buddha.
The ritual consists of a dance pantomime performed by lamas wearing papier-mâché masks depicting guardians and deities. They perform a religious dance, gesturing with their hands.

«I was inspired by the goal of the Mystery of Tsam - to show the presence of the divine on earth - because in everyday life we so often forget this».

From 2022 to 2025, she worked on the portrait series «Women of the World», inspired by her love for people. The artist uses iconic images from culture, religion, and everyday life.

«For me, facial wrinkles are a map of a person's life. They can help determine what kind of life they led, how easy or difficult their lot was, how hard they worked physically, how much they laughed, sad, or prayed. What climate they lived in, how much scorching sun or strong, dry wind there was. One could read endlessly about this. This is one of the reasons why I paint grandmothers».

Ravaeva's works are in private collections worldwide.
