About The Artwork

This painting is from a series of works I created about night storms at sea, far away from land, which is a subject that is an enduring interest for me. This is the only painting in the series that depicts the settled calm and clarity that ensues once the storm has passed. It is a peaceful work that I have found viewers tend to be drawn to. The piece is a medium-sized work in acrylic and silver leaf on a deep-edge canvas. The sides of the canvas are painted in a deep blue which has also been used in the painting itself. It is signed by me and has d-rings and picture cord on the back, so is ready to hang. It looks great unframed but, if you particularly wanted to get it framed, that would work well too. A medium-sized piece that would fit well into any home or workplace. It is visually strong enough to hang alone but would sit happily alongside other artworks if desired.

I'm an artist working primarily in painting and drawing from my studio in rural Wiltshire, UK. I am fascinated by the relationship between language and images, and my current series, Sleep, is inspired by instances of sleep, insomnia, dreaming and nightmare in poems and other works of literature. In 2020, I completed a series of 48 small paintings inspired by T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets poems. Readings of the poems, set against the backdrop of my paintings, can be heard and seen on my YouTube channel. A book about the project will be published in 2021. My work is regularly exhibited in galleries and open exhibitions across the UK, and is included in private collections in the US, Australia, France and Britain.
