This is part of the Aglu series based upon a breathing hole in the ice. I like the idea of capturing the spot where you come up for air from the depths. It is all worked in deep green hues for the fluid beneath and soft neutral whites, silvers and pale greens for the ice that the fluid splashes and oozes over. I work in acrylic, ink and pigments.

In recent years Beth has repeatedly returned to capturing the movement and other-worldly undulations of one fluid in another. Her work has often been drawn to the use of the paints' viscosity to create the image, as much as the colours and marks. Beth has more recently spent hundreds of hours coaxing and guiding thick layers of poured acrylic paint (alongside other mixed mediums), to create pieces on canvas that hopefully transport the viewer. “The mind is such a deep and resonate place. I want to create artwork that is in some way representative of the turbulence of this inner sanctum. I choose subjects for my painting series that focus on clearing that space and settling disorder. I try to capture that deep-breath-moment as the wind whips through your hair when you emerge at the top of a hill or out from the underground, and the world around you lifts your spirits momentarily and inexplicably. I love the quote by Winston Churchill when he spoke of Russia’s prospect of joining the Second World War - “It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.” A new series flutters in the background of my imagination, encouraged greatly by my son’s keenness for me to create a piece that looks like a nuclear bomb explosion…”
