About The Artwork
It's in oils, 20 inches high by 16 inches wide. It's (I think) the final piece of 5 paintings I've been working on for the last few weeks. In itself it's the combination of several ideas in relation to the traditional elements (which I've depicted as seasons within the previous 4). This painting is my visual potential description of Aether, or void as I understand it and it's potential implications. Whilst considering how best to portray this 'concept' I considered the basic composition of light, it's apparent absence and influence on colour - black and white specifically. I've also been researching ancient symbolism and references to Muses, Sibyls, the Oracles of Delphi and the Morning Star (Latin name - lucem ferre). For anyone curious, the title means Kaleidoscope (As a fan of The Beatles I've naturally considered their song 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds'). I was further inspired by a particular quote/prophecy made by Van Gogh (in relation to the use of colour by a future artist) and my thoughts on all of these have become interwoven within each of the preceding 4 paintings - along with this piece- that altogether form and comprise a set - "Elemental Muses".

I was born in Liverpool, Merseyside on 3rd October 1963, lived in South Wales for 7 years from 2002 - 2009, when I moved to my current location in Stafford. I'm exploring various styles/genres and techniques of oil painting. This includes (so far): Contemporary modern, abstract, realism, impressionist, romantic, landscape, and neo-stoicism. The latter is a personal style of work that I'm developing - I'm producing art that has an underlying comment, story or philosophical question. My interests include paralinguistics, philosophy, antiquity, law, cosmology, emerging science, creed, spirituality and the resulting impact on our fundamental values and appreciation in individual modern lives and society generally. I was diagnosed with a processing 'difference' in 2009. I've been researching the subject since and found I'm particularly interested in visual spatial awareness, cognitive abilities, and the various issues faced by the uniquely gifted (2e) and how these could be affectively utilised expressively in artistic terms. As a result of this processing difference I'm also an exponent of Ariadne's thread logic.
