Alenquer, Or Dove's word Painting

The name of this tiny street in a Portuguese town Alenquer, Escadinha da Amargura, translates as Little Staircase of Sorrow. This is the road to the monastery cemetery, at the gates of which Death smiles twice (with an extinguished torch? with a brush? in the teeth). This work is inspired by the heart-warming views of Alenquer, and also by the words of the poet: «And we will burn out in the flame of sunset / To remain forever in the garden over the river / Because with our lips / You once said this, once and for all, / The dove's word».
