Reality, those overlapping layers one against each other, lacks any essential meaning. Signifier and signified cannot be pulled apart, the interdependence is absolute. Thus, objects, images, nor shapes possess independent meaning. It is extrinsic, codependent of the eye of the observer and the mind of the thinker. The dynamic relationship between the outside, as an external reality, and the inside, as an internal reality, is often forgotten. We have been trained to execute and endorse reality to our own concepts, beliefs, biases, and paradigms. We take for granted that what we see and how we see it obeys a solid unique and accurate interpretation. We obviate the wonders of the day-to-day and of relativity, in consequence, we avoid confronting, questioning and, doubting about what we take for granted and true. When I write, paint, film or photograph, my intention is to use "what is real" to debunk "the real" itself. Every art manifestation is, from my point of view, a way to wake up, to pull out of oneself, to question. It is a shock therapy that gently, and without prejudice, helps the individual to take a second glance to its surroundings with the same eyes but with a different look. My work is based on constant perceptual becoming, on the continuous exploration of the world and the senses, rooted in the most profound doubt that remains beyond any certainty, imposed true, and established paradigm. The expression of this endless process of searching and objecting aims significance though the artistic creation. Hereby, in texts, I search for contradictions, euphemisms, metamessages, and references. In images, the search is for the semiotic, the minimalism, the childish and simple. All of this, hoping to achieve a propagandistic result that can strike whoever sees, whoever perceives, whoever is willing to see beyond the apparent. To attain something that, like a koan, will resound until becoming an echo of thoughts themselves. Vicente Forte
