Algoritmo I / Algorithm I Painting

I’m interested in the interaction of color, mark making, hieroglyphs, Chinese calligraphy, Maya codices, Mudejar geometries, graffiti and so-called asemic writing (that can have zero meaning, or infinite meanings). I am also bilingual and bicultural and often find myself in the space between two worlds. While painting these two worlds converge, and I vacillate between spontaneous gesture and conscious/intentional thought, maybe even hyper-conscious thought, as I was deeply impressed by the branch of critical theory known as Semiotics, interpretation, language, translation, context, systems and multivalent meaning.
