I like to read the myths of ancient Greece and visualize legends in my own way. This artwork appeared after reading the story of a girl named Phyllis. The artwork was painted with beeswax with color pigments: wax paints made according to an ancient recipe, which allows the painting not to lose color and pristine appearance for centuries. Such a technique has proved itself throughout the history of mankind and art. This artwork could be framed for free by wooden frame or if you don't want – without it. Dimensions with frame 136*106 cm. The legend which gave the inspiration for me: A girl Phyllis lived In ancient Greece and was in love with Demophon. Phyllis could not survive long separation and turned into a dry tree. Returning to his homeland, Demophon hugged a dried tree and cried relentlessly, watering the branches with tears. Many days and nights, grieving for his beloved, he squeezed a lifeless trunk in the arms. Once the gods of Olympus took pity for Demophon, but Hades did not release Phyllis from the afterlife. And then the tree came to life, leaves dissolved on it and flowers bloomed. The sweet aroma differed from flowers, but with a light mustard, as a memory of love and separation of Phyllis and Demophon. The second legend suggests that almonds grew up in the place where the charming daughter of the Hellenic king Midos took her life after the death of her beloved husband. Therefore, the aroma of flowers and the taste of almonds with a slight inflow of bitterness. This painting was shown at the exhibition «Floral myths of Hellas» in Russian Art Museum in Moscow (Russia, August. 2020)

I'm a contemporary Russian artist. I took the family name Mamontova for a pseudonym, inspired by the family history: my great-grandfather was the Russian merchant Vasily Mamontov, he continued the family business of the XVIII-XIX centuries in trade and delivery of goods from England to Arkhangelsk and the Urals on the Mezen river. Here you can make sure that my pseudonym is officially registered. http://isni.org/isni/0000000491277848 The study of the history, traditions and arts of different countries and the continuous search for new images give me the opportunity to explore all forms of life and transfer this experience to others by my paintings. The one of the main goals of my work – the revival of cultures and art from different eras, the popularization of forgotten knowledge. Right now I work in 3 techniques: – classical oil painting, – decorative-applied art “encaustic” – an ancient method of painting with hot beeswax with pigments, – the author's technique Oρείχαλκος – oil on brass. I live and work in 2 places – Moscow, Russia and Alanya, Turkey.
