About The Artwork
This work is inspired by the illegal detentions of individuals in Ugandan police cells. The artwork invites the viewer to contemplate why the rights of various individuals are violated to the extent of unlawfully holding someone in a crowded cell for over two months, where meals and healthcare are not provided, and without the possibility of release or bail. I decided to depict the hard, cold ground sagging to emphasize that what may appear to be blatantly against the law has become the unfortunate norm, and perhaps the uninformed citizens conform to it.
