I could have called this painting "homage to legs" because that's really the subject here. Her legs dominate the painting, framing everything else. This is an alla-prima painting, done in a single intensive (practilly ferocious) session with James Brown playing on the stereo to drive things along. Painting in a single session means that you have to get it right the first time, or else scrape it off. There's no scope for corrections or indecision.

Painting is a practice of paying close attention to the specifics and particulars of what’s actually there. He paints in a direct, alla prima method, usually in a single session. He thinks of painting as a performance, like singing or dancing, something that’s done in time, and that demands virtuosity and complete focus.
