About The Artwork
Annette Johnson was a pin up model in the 1950's and 60's who appeared in small format glamour magazines. In those days pin ups were considered too vulgar to be Art (hence she sits outside the Royal Academy). When Pop Art came along, it brought pin ups into so called 'High Art' and swept away the traditional distinction between fine art nudes and popular images of the nude.
