Painting, Oil on Wood
Size: 41 W x 41 H x 3 D in
Ships in a Crate
This wood round piece painted with oil, raw pigments, gold leaf and resin represents the Seal ; Annuit Coeptis ; this motto is a loose adaptation of the lines from the roman poet Virgil, that translates as "He favors our undertaking", and implies that the undertaking is a daring one. The face of Lady Liberty together with the image of a young boy looking down at her from the central window of the statue's crown symbolize that this enterprise is a personal one. Its a prayer to the gods for help and guidance in the land of opportunities.

Evelyn Valdirio is a multifaceted contemporary artist: painter, printmaker, assemblage artist, and designer. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Valdirio studied sociology and anthropology at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. In 1983, she moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the Catholic University of America. Valdirio has lived and worked in Miami, Florida since 1992. Trained as a printmaker, Valdirio has evolved into a 360-degree artist. She is an accomplished painter, currently incorporating tri-dimensionality in her work. She has not limited her work to the canvas; and is developing a line of furniture and clothing featuring one-of-a kind paintings. Socially engaged, she has been crafting the Hispanic Unity of America’s awards since 2007. She aims to endow her work with a touch of magical realism and spiritual energy, in a never ending transgressive yet ritualistic procession of ideas and emotions. Her major series: Hispanic American Transmigrations, Homage to Rimbaud, Federal Reserve Note, Angels, and Holy Land, among others, create intimate landscapes that constantly challenge the viewer to address uncomfortable questions regarding sexuality and power, divinity and profanity, and society’s lack of solidarity. At the same time, her work is imbued with an elusive and whimsical beauty often lacking in today’s prosaic art world. Evelyn Valdirio’s art work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, and Latin America. Her work can be found in corporate and foundation collections (Bank of America, Chase, J.P. Morgan, United Distillers & Vintners (UDV) of America, APR Energy, Petroleos de Venezuela SA, J.M Family Enterprises, Inc, and the Jim Moran Foundation, among others); as well as in private art collections in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, and in the United States.
