About The Artwork
This piece was created from my intuition. I didn't plan on the finished result and stayed open to where the piece "wanted" to go. The backgroud was created with layers and layers of washes. "Anoint" as a title, comes from my idea of having a character or animal made holy, or realizing their divine nature. Often my characters seem to be in a process of transformation, moving from a state of darkness or confusion to a brighter more alive place.

Scott Mills was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1977. He works mainly in the realm of surrealism and pop surrealism. Elements of space and time combine with characters familiar and surreal to create a juxtaposed sense of being grounded and spacious at the same time. His work often references the concept of symbiosis and the fragile balance of nature in our world. Scott has been involved with visual arts for his entire life, but has focused his pursuits to painting for the last five years.
