About The Artwork

In my works, I reflect on the existence of man in the modern world, on the values, tasks and reflexes of humanity. I'm sure that we are an absolutely reflection of the culture in which we live and show in my art works an objective reality of modern world where humanity put material values on the most important place. I raise the question of the existence of God and its importance in human life, question about personal relationships with God and about the meaning of life and personal purpose. Everyone of us was born for something: someone - to give birth to a Great Teacher, and someone - to become them. This Series of painting is called " Approaching Zero". Why "Approaching zero"? This is an answer to the question where the world is going? When you are in your comfort zone - you do nothing and when you do nothing - you move back to the starting point, approaching zero. Jab yourself, suddenly you are sleeping?! Only the sharpness of a push from the outside brings a person into a sense of reality.

Oleg Kostyuchenko is Belarus-born Artist and Curator currently based in Brooklyn, NY.  Author's art works and research are connected with physical endurance and focuses on the body as material continuation of spiritual and on a person with a special physical and mental development. The topic of Oleg Kostyuchenko’s works is a human body and its visible sufferings. The purpose of his works is to show the fragility of human life. The artist combines pain and suffering with aesthetic attraction. His vision of the body gives to a viewer a feeling of love and relief, but also shows terror and violence.  The pictures play the role of stimulus or a mirror, the images of which motivate the viewer to the dialogue, social interaction or the ability to be open along with. By portraying fleshliness, the author makes a person to deal with an individual or social reality.  Through the provocative form, Oleg Kostyuchenko talks about faith and vertical hierarchy as well as an existential crisis and its causes. The artist introduces his version of modern ethical guidelines by an intervention into the taboo themes and images. Last curatorial projects by OK are dedicated  to the global theme of a wound on the world an  to the Armenian genocide. The Author in his projects works with global issues that must be revealed, with the truth that finally emerges.
