About The Artwork

This painting is inspired by the rainforest where I used to live, with plenty of cicadas. Just around the corner of my house was an egg shaped rock with fungus all over it, this painting brings me back to the rainforest with its relaxing, healing experience and hope for my viewers as well

Hiske Tas Bain, was born in occupied Europe, during WWII in The Hague, The Netherlands. Having come from a fairly creative background, Hiske expressed her Artistic talents at a very early age, along with the encouragement from family and friends she had no doubt that she would become an Artist. The Hague, has a great Artist community and a smorgasbord of diverse culture. This gave her the opportunity to study under some of the best tutors one could wish for. After finishing her formal education in The Hague, she went on to attend Art School, first in De Haagse Academie voor Beeldende Kunst, then later De Haagse Vrije Academie, she then also went on to study in The Regent College of Art in London. Being inspired by such art styles as, Surrealism, Dadaism, Magic realism, and stimulated by people in society, Culture, Music and Art, traveling became one of Hiske’s passions. She has journeyed and lived extensively throughout Europe and Asia. After having lived in Paris, London, New York, and Antwerp, she took up residence in Australia where she now lives and has worked for 46 years. From a young age Hiske was attracted to Australia, so she moved there in 1970 first to Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in Queensland. She and her husband opened an Art Gallery which they called “NOW”. Besides holding exhibitions for her Artwork, they both also crafted silver jewellery. Later moving to Mullumbimby, which is a small town situated in NSW on the North Eastern Coast of Australia, she built her home and studio surrounded by the inspiration of mountains and rainforest. Recently, however, she has relocated to her new home and studio in Murwillumbah, NSW Australia. She is still surrounded by mountains, this time not with rainforest, but instead by sweeping open plains. Hiske is also interested in the Healing Arts and studied and worked as a Natural Therapist. Her studies and interests lay in the field of, Homeopathy, Herbal Medicine, Colour Therapy, Massage, and Astrology. She developed her knowledge further, by training as a Reiki Master and then later was instructed by Shaman Master Kahili King in Hawaii. Hiske’s studies and fascination with the Indigenous culture, along with the stimulating wonders of nature and the magic of its vastness led her to the tribal women in the desert of Ernabella in the Northern Territory, Australia. She worked and lived amongst the women there as a Natural Therapist and they shared knowledge of each other’s crafts and culture.
