This painting was first thought of as an exercise to see if I could manipulate acrylic paint like watercolor. It turned out to be a nice little painting with fluid movement that has slightly more control than watercolor, yet a flatness that comes with acrylics.

My father, a civil engineer, took me on tours of jails and prisons in my youth simultaneous to my religious, celestial grooming in enclosed institutions. This exposure to vast landscapes and constrained, invasive dwellings continues to shape my artistic career. I am intrigued by the contradiction of being in a place yet not being the place, that there is always a link and separation between structure and freedom.
