About The Artwork

Oil paints and glass normally do not go together. However, I have been successful at incorporating the two together with a unique and distinctive style that I have singlehandedly developed over the years. Although it takes several weeks to complete a painting due to lengthy drying times between different stages of the painting with Oil colours, but I'm not willing to compromise on the sheer beauty of oil colours in exchange for faster drying times. Oils look gorgeous, and they continue to sparkle for a long long time. Bathrooms: This painting could be safely hung in a high humidity area as well, especially a bathroom, because the painted surface is behind the 5mm thick Sandblasted glass. Unlike traditional paintings, the surface of this painting can be easily wiped or cleaned with a glass cleaner to keep it looking sharp over the years. Hanging: This painting can be hung in four different ways! It comes ready to be hung in two different ways (one horizontal, and one vertical). The hanging apparatus can be easily adjusted by loosening two screws, sliding the clips a little, and then tightening them - very simple. But which way does it look the most beautiful? You will need to hold the painting in your hands, have a seat on your sofa, examine it in from all four sides, and determine which way you like it the best (I bet it's not going to be easy - it looks beautiful from all four sides). Also, you will see different images from different angles. That's why I didn't sign it at the front, and to provide you greater flexibility in making it very personal. However, it's signed and dated at the back. Now tell me, how many paintings do you have that can be hung in multiple ways? Materials: I use artist's-quality oil paints manufactured by Winsor and Newton from England (the paints are actually 'Made in France'). The 'sandblasted glass' is 5mm thick and it is free of the greenish tint commonly found in glass. This type of glass is expensive, but I'm very particular about using high-quality materials. This is what the famous author, Ray Smith, says in his book, “The Artist’s Handbook,” 3rd Edition: “Glass is one of the most stable of all supports. Provided that it is properly handled, an oil painting on glass is more permanent than one on canvas. The best glass to paint on is sandblasted on one side to create a slightly matte surface that is perfect for painting on and provides a good key for oil paint. Sandblasting does not affect the transparency of the glass.” p. 179. Note: This is one of the paintings in the "As You Like It" series. Each painting in this series can be hung in four different ways - two horizontal and two vertical.

Jaspal Cheema is a contemporary Canadian artist, who has developed a distinctive style that reflects “chaos and beauty intertwined.” He paints reverse oil paintings on sandblasted glass exclusively. *********Oil paints and glass normally do not go together. However, he has been successful at incorporating the two together with a unique and distinctive style that he had developed during the 1995-96 period. Although it takes several weeks to complete a painting due to the lengthy drying times between different stages of the painting with Oil colours, but he's not willing to compromise on the sheer beauty of oil colours in exchange for faster drying times.
