I never set out to make a painting about any one thing. I pull images from those I have collected--some photos are my own, some are found, some have found me--before I begin working, but I never begin painting with an intent to convey anything as specific as a feeling or idea. Where a realistic painter might work to examine and describe sunlight, I work to investigate the gaps around memories or ideas or nameable emotions--the places and spaces which cannot be described except in an amalgamation of images. I use various solvents to transfer printed imagery into my artwork, leaving a reverse impression of the original image. I work in dialogue with these images as they create their marks never knowing what the result will be until it's too late to control it completely. I must accept the mark that has been made and embrace it. This painting is sold unframed, signed and dated on recto.
