Avocado Halves Painting

I was inspired by realist observations and oil-sketches of various fruit and vegetables, objects that can be found in the home. I intended to keep the subject matter minimal. The metaphor lies in the avocado having two halves, comprising a whole. The minty green tones, beiges, slightly purple and brown undertones all helped to construct the entire aesthetic composition of the painting. I applied thick layers of paint, giving the avocados an expressive quality, as they appear "sketchy" rather than flat and refined. Although attempting to stick to realism, there is an expressionist element seen in the free-flowing lines in the background and smaller dashes seen on the surface of the fruit.
