Painted sketch of Bacchus with a group of figures inspired by an invitation card to an exhibition in Palma, Mallorca some years ago. Not sure of the artist, but could be the Spanish artist, Ribera. I loved the composition and colours and have given it a modern, almost abstract touch. I have used many materials including acrylic paint, charcoal and pastels in a effort to show many layers and movement

Taking a lot of inspiration from old masters, particularly from the Rococo/Baroque era, I'm especially drawn to the composition, colors & fabrics and like to put my contemporary twist on it. Painting in a very expressive way, abstract elements are explored in these figurative subjects and the spaces in between. Using a variety of media such as acrylic, charcoal, plaster & pastel I'm constantly experimenting with textures & layers to convey flow & movement. Throughout my artistic career I've exhibited widely across the UK and Europe in both group and solo shows, as well as having work regularly published. My work can be found in private collections around the world from Europe, US & Canada, to the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Puerto Rico & Mexico. www.laurarathe.com Instagram: mandyracine9584
