Bats at Dusk Painting

A number of walls in our house are the projection sites for very attractive shadows produced by the sunlight falling into the rooms and passing by a set of plants on the windowsills on their way. I have been observing these shadows for a number of years now and am in the process of creating a series of acrylic and gouache paintings, abstracting on the properties of these shadows. This painting is the second in the above series. It depicts bats flying in a jungle at dusk. The painting is made up of a series of three layers, each consisting of intricate shadow/silhouette patterns modelled using a negative technique, then covered in a transparent layer of acrylic gloss medium.
