Beneath the Writhing Sky Painting

The concept behind this work was to incorporate and integrate free-form calligraphy and calligraphic gestures into a figurative representation of a landscape (hence the work's alternative title of "Langscape #1"). The sky is writing with "clouds" that appear like living sea-like creatures or aliens from an alternative dimension or other world and which are composed of an impressionistic assortment of dots, dabs, and squiggles. The sky moves with wisps of wind and shafts of light. The horizon teems with gestures that are at once evocative of distant structures while at the same time resembling messages or elements of language or poetry. The surface of the "sea" abounds with highlights that appear like passages of verse.
