Sunrise at the beginning of the year inspired this work. Bright red and orange colours shining through the trees. Birch is a pioneer tree. A great companion of new woodland. Birch is one of the first trees to naturally establish in cleared forests, the first appeared after the ice age. Associated to rebirth and fertility. Light and renewal. It is related to the first letter of the Ogham (Druid system of divination)alphabet. "Beith" / Birch , a new start and beginning, cleansing. Thus related to November it meant in this system the first month. I thought with the sun fairy like a good vibration for the start of the new year. A symbol of new beginnings, renewal and purification. As well as female power. Birch has a strong relationship with water. During spring 70 liters of water flow up from the roots to the crown. Because of it healing and detoxification properties it was called sometimes called "Nierenbaum" (German =Kidney-tree). In current season Birch Leaf Tee its a good choice for easing a cold symptoms. I love to drink Birch Juice in spring if proper sourced.

Gabriele Höhne grew up in the “Ruhr Valley” in Germany as it transformed from polluted heavy industrial centre to post-industrial cultural hub. After graduation Gabriele worked as an Art Director in advertising and interaction design. Her artistic soul found home in London where she took up painting to, as she puts it, let her spirit fly. Her work explores dreamworlds, perception of life events, and personal emotions
