About The Artwork

Berkeley #6 is a framed acrylic painting ready for hanging. The continuing theme Jaren has been working with since 2001 the abstraction of reflections and the beauty in pushing further abstraction. A style he calls "abstract realism'. This painting series is based on his original photographs of light on water. This piece the reflection was at the Berkeley Marina, in San Francisco. Bay Area. The reflected image has been manipulated in a computer to create more abstraction by increasing the saturation, introducing distortion and so forth. The addition of geometry has been added in past few years. This painting it is dissected on the right and left sides vertically with deep lavender strips. The painting is further divided horizontally with black stripes. In the center is a large red rectangle with a vertical black stripe. These geometric elements dominate and disrupt the painting's subject the reflection. In the remaining 6 open spaces he created individual abstract vignettes that form fragments of the abstracted reflected image. We only see glimpses of the reflection around the red block and through stripes to the reflection. This further abstraction only adds to the illustion the rest of the image is residing behind the geometry. Which is obviously impossible, but does beg the question what parts of the abstracted reflection are missing and can it be imagined. The painting forms a strong abstract presence and visual statement. As with all of Jaren's paintings this one would make a fine addition to your home or office.
