My name is Kelly Ford and this is my Boston Terrier Olive Oil. I have been painting on and off for over twenty years. When I was 19 years old I was in a roll over truck accident which left me a Quadriplegic. Through intense therapy and a great deal of will power I was able to regain partial use of my arms and movement in my wrists. I have no dexterity in my fingers but figured out a way to hold my paint brush in between my middle finger and ring finger. I then use both hands to grasp the paint brush. I use the movement in my wrist and the strength in my arms to guide the brush over the canvas. I have to paint on a flat surface and have learned to paint upside down so I can work on larger canvases. After my accident, I threw myself into the world of painting. It was not only my passion but my salvation in a sense as well. It helped me grieve what I had lost and embrace my new way of life. One day 26 years ago my nurse and I went for a drive and saw a Boston Terrier wandering by himself on a highway in a State park. We stopped to check on him and he jumped right into my lap. He was very ill with pneumonia and required spending nearly a week at the veterinary clinic. I guess you could say this little dog and I saved each other. He became my most faithful friend and we loved each other unconditionally. He was my most cherished little sidekick for ten years. He passed away in 2004 and there is not a day that goes by that he is not in my thoughts. I took off over a decade from painting after my daughter was born in 2005. Due to health issues and wanting to spend all my time with my little girl I did not start painting again until 2020. I decided to focus on Boston TerrierÅ› because they have brought so much joy to my life. I have also had the privilege of having an English Bulldog, French Bulldog, and pug. I guess you could say I am partial to squished in face dogs. I am open to painting any kind of critter you have in mind. I am a surreal and fantasy painter. I love to paint animals in dream-like settings doing funny and outrageous things. If you would like a custom original piece of art of your pet I do do commissions. If you are interested in a painting send me an email with your idea and a picture of your pet. I will give you an estimate depending on how long it will take me to create your masterpiece. If you are in a hurry to receive your painting, I am not the artist for you.
