About The Artwork

Painting is on wood, with recessed frame attached to back (not framed) and wired. The scarab in Egyptian culture is typically associated with solar symbolism. The scarab-beetle god Khepera was believed to push the setting sun along the sky in the same manner as the beetle with his ball of dung. When placed in a tomb or on a sarcophagus they were known as "heart scarabs" and were meant to bind the heart to silence when weighed against the feather of truth during the final judgement. The amulets were often inscribed with a spell from the Book of the Dead which entreated the heart to, "do not stand as a witness against me." Babbitt's Atom (the symbol in gold), with positive pole, negative pole and neutral core showing centrifugal and centripetal forces that make up the body and energy field of all living things.
