About The Artwork

Watercolor on Fabriano Artistico 300 g paper. This work represents a black and white cat. He seems to be carefully watching some bird or other, what his plans are. Move around, or stand there quietly imagining.... I painted this watercolor with a single color, liquid black, I played with the water, the most important thing for me was to make it alive and let the light pass through. .

Muriel Mougeolle is a painter, watercolorist, ceramist. Driven by her appetite for creation since childhood, she exhibited oil paintings from the age of 14. Two aesthetic shocks allow us to understand his work. The first, when she was only 7 years old, was seeing Sergio Leone’s masterpiece “Once Upon a Time in the West” in the cinema, on an XXL screen. The close-ups of these immense gazes had a profound effect on his mind. The second is falling into tears, overwhelmed by emotion, in front of Sandro Botticelli's “Spring” at the Louvre in the 2000s. Muriel Mougeolle's sensitivity is expressed through different mediums, watercolor, acrylic or clay and porcelain. One nourishing the other. Their common points: water, earth, fire. Abstraction and figuration complement each other, echoing his emotional quest for the moment. What it expresses and transmits: feelings, an emotion, an atmosphere, a human nature charged with its own history. “Painting is the means of expressing emotion in its pure state”, this thought of Willem de Kooning, particularly corresponds to him. Muriel Mougeolle's painting is made of aesthetics, symbolism and dreams. Her practice is constantly evolving, because the infinity of nuances and subtleties of the soul are available to her. His works are present in numerous private collections in France and abroad. She participates in exhibitions and international trade fairs, her work is regularly rewarded.
