About The Artwork

Tides are ever changing in this world. Be it sentiment or movements in our oceans, tides are critical. This painting was started to be a nighttime cityscape with the horizon placed in the middle of the painting. The underpainting peeks through with reds, oranges and yellows. As marks were made, I made a decision to "start over" and proceeded to lay down thick black paint right down the middle of the canvas. I split the bottom and top halves and used vertical brushwork in a very quick fashion. A couple of marks made on the right side of the canvas can be interpreted as boats. Here's the tie-in to tides. The finishing touches of orange and blue added just a bit more abstraction of shape and design. As with most of my art I like to paint fast and loose, with brush and palette knife work being very present with closer observation.

I'm older now and art takes on new meanings. More emotion. More expression. More tension. Abstraction consumes most of my time as I search for voicing my feelings and thoughts on a canvas.
