Blodeuwedd Painting

I drew inspiration from the Welsh creation myth of "Blodeuwedd," who became the unconsenting wife of Lleu Llaw Gyffes after Math and his wizard uncle, Gwydion had made her from wild flowers. Her conception was unnatural as was the expectation for her to behave according to moral law. She emerges, Venus like, into a unsuspecting world, cocooned by flowers that endeavour to protect her. The small owl at the bottom of picture hints at her fate. Viewers can contemplate the naturalness of the human figure being evoked in completely unnatural circumstances as the hubris of man to goes too far, yet again, in attempting to dominate his environment. The flowers were mainly grown in my garden and some of the colours come from natural pigments I mixed from a mountain in France.
