"Bloom" incorporates spray paint, graphite, acrylic paint, inks, collage, and oil paint. There is a spiral in the bottom right corner of the piece, which is a symbol that emerges often in certain eastern philosophy. Just as one single line within this form returns to the same rough point in space, it has also been said that life is not linear, but cyclical in terms of patterns of experience. To me, this is very profound and beautiful, so I often, sometimes subtly incorporate this existential shape into my work. "Bloom" is about becoming stronger, brighter, and more real so to speak during one's spiral of life.

After earning a Bachelor of Individualized Studies in Art, Holistic Health, and Religious Studies at the University of Minnesota, Cohen studied traditional oil painting. and mixed media techniques at the Milan Art Institute. It was there that her style as an abstract expressionist emerged. Today Cohen’s work explores emotional nuance through the use of vibrant colors and textures. Her work is visceral, fast-paced, and intuitive, leveraging tools such as spray paint, collage, mirror, fabric, acrylic inks, and oil paint. She considers her creative process a storm of inspiration that might strike at any moment - moving quickly before passing upon completion of each piece. “My work is intuitive,” says Cohen “Painting for me is both a release of the old and a process of regeneration where I feel very connected and alive.” Based in the heart of Minneapolis, Cohen’s studio is five minutes from the Mississippi river, where she often sits and writes about themes for her upcoming pieces. The sun moving through the water - an element Cohen has incorporated in much of her work - is one of her top inspirations. Cohen is in the beginning stages of creating an art book of her work.
