Blowing in the Wind Painting

This painting is a Triptych, painted on three separate panels that can be hung either flush together or slightly apart. Each panel is 36" high X 24"wide, making the total measurement of the entire painting 36"high X 72"wide. This is a perfect size for a dining room or foyer, or to place over a bed or sofa. In terms of inspiration, this painting references the China Asters that I grow in my garden, but it is primarily process-based, and material-based; which means the true inspiration for this painting and the others in this series are the actual materials used to create them, the inherent properties of those materials, and the instruments used to apply them. It is a work of mixed media, and to create it I used a wide variety of pigments which include acrylic paints, both full bodied and fluid, as well as household enamel, inks and airbrush paint. No brushes were used. Instead I used painting knives, rollers, spoons, sponges, rags and bottles, as well as a variety of implements many of my own invention. The painting is done on a gallery-style canvas, which means the edges are 1-and- 3/4" wide, and looks best unframed. The edges have been left unpainted, in keeping with the preferred modern aesthetic for an abstract painting, and also to honor the process. Where the various pigments have dripped and splattered, they reveal the history of the creation of the painting, and lend it a raw and unabashed authenticity. The panels are light weight, each weighing app. 2 kilos. They ship easily, either together or in three separate boxes. All three panels come with sawtooth hooks, which hang easily on a small nail. This is the easiest way to hang a triptych. I love creating these paintings! They are pure inspiration, and very intuitive, each gestural response eliciting the next, in the spirit of abstract expressionism. Through their creation I hope to reach out to and connect with people, to evoke an emotional response......to let people into my soul.
