About The Artwork

Dark surreal original oil painting on hardboard by me (Paul Yunin). Dimensions 91x61 cm (35.8x24in). Artwork is unique. The artwork is framed in a wooden (handmade by the artist) frame and ready to hang. The name of the artwork is "Blue Organ". Such material as hardboard chosen not accidentally. One of my favorite artists is a Polish painter Zdzislaw Beksinski, who painted exclusively on fiberboard. We also share love for the dark arts, mysticism, surrealism and fantastic realism in painting. This is the one of the first artwork of the series of paintings in the style of dark surrealism. When I start painting an artwork, I don't know what it will be on the end. Initially, there is only a sketch, and 90% of the details appear in the process of work. Sometimes the artwork is completely changed in the painting process. After the finish of each of the paintings of the series, each of its can be interpreted, since in our subconscious there are many archetypes and everyone can see something own in my works, but at the same time it will be right in its own way. Maybe not even in his own way, but just right. Personally for me, this artwork is the step, the bold step to painting such works, which probably will not understand the most of people around (aspecially in Russia). That is the step to paint something personal, openly, sincere. As Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: "I read only what is written with own blood." I also try to paint, roughly speaking, with my own blood. And this first artwork expresses movement in this direction. The whole mass of the figure depicted in the painting is moving rapidly in a certain direction of something new, from left to right, forward to a new life.

Paul Yunin (1992 of the b.) - a painter from Russia, working in St. Petersburg. By education he is an engineer. I studied painting and sculpture by myself. I paint in the genre of dark surrealism, but not trying to stay within the frames of the genre. Rather, on the contrary, I trying to avoid stamps that have developed in different kinds of dark styles of world art. There are not a goal to depict a horror story, cause anxiety in the viewer. I have a need for experiment and a search for new ways of expressing an idea. At the beginning of his work, I tuning in to the wave of maximum openness of soul and sincerity. I trying to make my artworks truly, as Friedrich Nietzsche had said "writing with own blood". I task is to convey the light and darkness of my own experiences, feelings, thoughts as accurately as possible with the help of non-verbal images, and of the archetypes. I trying to pack the prose of reality into a bright poetic form. I as if direct the brush that gives birth to images on the canvas which my subconscious suggests to me. In painting I mostly use the scumble technique of painting. It unites me with his favorit Renaissance artists, with symbolism and some mysticism of their artworks. Behind the gloomy atmosphere of artist's works there are hidden the revelations of the subconscious, deep, perhaps vulnerable sensuality, religious mysticism and even lyricism. Behind thorn spikes, suffering of heroes and unearthly matters there is spiritual nakedness, liberation from the burdensome conventions of the surrounding world and striving for truth, at all cost, whether it is pleasant or cruel. Since the fall of 2017, I work with sculpture. In addition to experimental projects, I produced a series of erotic sculptures and a series of sculptures from the paintings of Polish artist Zdzislaw Beksinski, whose works made a great influence on me. In 2019 Zdzislaw would have turned 90 years old.
