Boat Stripes Blue and Maroon and Yellow Painting

What/who inspired the work? My Rothko-style paintings emerged into this form on this particular day. I'm always coming from a Midcentury Modern place in my mind. What do you hope its viewers will feel/think? I feel the painting is vibrant and has an aliveness, a strong, but cheerful energy. One certainly wouldn't call it dull or blah, quite the opposite, especially with the red undercoat and the blatant textures. Why did I choose the medium, subject matter, style? This is my most common medium. I like to use acrylic paints on 140LB acid free watercolor paper. My love of color, seeing the paint emerge in textures, layers, and Sgraffito effects gives me pleasure. My son, who is also an artist, tells me, "Mom, if you don't have fun painting it, the viewer won't have fun looking at it." I had fun with this one. I'm constantly experimenting with new directions, subjects and styles as I have an inquisitive mind. But, most commonly, I keep coming back to Midcentury style abstract expressionism.
