Borderline Painting

Marlien Kulsdom is a visual artist educated at the Fashion Academy of Amsterdam (AMFI | design) and self-taught in painting. She has a strong passion for creating detailed artworks inspired by nature and the female form, mixed with mathematical shapes and a hint of surrealism. From a young age, Marlien was always sketching, from fashion illustrations to portraits. Her creative path changed when a couple of years ago she started to focus more on oil painting and the topic shifted to climate change and the need to escape to a safe existence, like a gateway to another world. Her creative process begins with simple, easy lines of a pencil. The paintings are characterized by the use of earth tones, ochre and greens. You will find her interest in fabrics and textiles reflecting in the folds of the fabrics. Also a clear light source and the beauty of the female figure often plays a role in her work. Marlien lives and works in downtown Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
