Based loosely on the story of how the tantric goddess Tara came into being: Looking down upon the world from the summit of a mountain, the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara saw how people were trapped in an endless cycle of suffering to which they were bound eternally unless awakened. His tears fell to his feet and formed a lake. Out of its waters rose up a lotus, which on opening, revealed the universal mother.
