„Utopias seem to be much more achievable than we formerly believed them to be. Now we find ourselves presented with another alarming question: how do we prevent utopias from coming into existence? …Utopias are possible. Life tends towards the formation of utopias. Perhaps a new century will begin, a century in which intellectuals and the privileged will dream of ways to eliminate utopias and return to a non-utopic society less “perfect” and more free.” – Nikolai Alexandrowitsch Berdjajew The novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley starts with this quote. While the society described in the novel is ruled by a man-made total dictatorship, algorithms are gaining more and more power in the real world today. Information is collected and preselected. There is no room for individuality. The freedom to make unbiased decisions becomes more and more limited. Identity is abolished. The gas mask shown in the picture symbolizes the unification of the individuals and the limitation to the field of vision and free opinion, by given algorithms. The mask is contrasted by a natural spirit representing the freedom of individual development. The work was created in collaboration with Patricia Petapermal in the artist collective Petalee.

I was born in 1972, Munich, Germany and grew up as a half-Korean Bavarian native in southern Bavaria near the Alps. After a medical PhD, a PR degree and raising three daughters to self-confident, responsible and diverse human beings, I decided to turn my passion for art into profession. This unique combination is the base of my artwork that evolves around “identity” as main theme. In my work I capture visions and mystical creatures from a land between dreaming and awakening. These invite the viewer to dive into their own identity and search for their forgotten ability of magical thinking. A place where no self-imposed borders exist, a moment back in time, where the view of life is clear and unbiased. I am the creator of the #bagabonds, an international social media art project for diversity. My artwork has been shown in Berlin, Munich, Seoul, Salzburg and Lahti. Artists such as Moebius (aka Jean Giraud), Maurice Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are), Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away's Journey to the Magic Land), Astrid Lindgren (Ronja Robber's Daughter), Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince) spiritually inspire me, Käthe Kollwitz, Cy Twombly, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Niki de Saint Phalle, Alex Kanevsky, Jenny Saville inspire my in terms of their creative work.
