About The Artwork

In this piece, the interplay of light against an expanse of sea and sky is explored. A moment on the fringe of this scenario, a pier by the seaside, is taken as the mediating point between water and air with the ethereal colours of the setting Sun blended out across the sky. A subtle mirror of the sky's technicolour pattern into the sea is interrupted by a breaking wave and the reflection of the pier in the distance. This artwork is painted onto a primed canvas board. The board consists of an artist quality cotton canvas fabric laminated onto a dimensionally stable wood fibre board. The main benefit of this being added versatility in how you mount the canvas, as the final painting is very thin but remains rigidly flat. A subtle signature is visible in the bottom right corner of the canvas, the canvas is also stamped on the reverse. It is suggested to hang the painting in a frame without glass to better highlight the glossier elements. As an alternative, the painting can be mounted on a floating or tray frame for an impactful shadow. 11.8" x 15.7" 30 x 40 cm

Nikolai Almeida is an abstract painter based in London. He works primarily in acrylics, with his artistic works characterized by two distinct styles: The first is is a blurring of reality into abstraction, initially inspired by interplay of light in a dense forest landscape, this branched out to a herringbone pixelation of scenes in ethereal colourscapes. In his second style, a systematic brushwork method is used to craft pleasing compositions, often without a particular subject matter or focus in mind. Nikolai is a practicing architect in the UK, balancing the grand scale of architecture with the intricate details of his art. His influences span a diverse spectrum of creators who share his appreciation for the process-driven nature of art. For Nikolai, art isn't an escape; it's a vibrant lifeline that enriches his architectural creativity. His paintings challenge perceptions, offering glimpses into the boundless possibilities of the abstract.
