The Church of Gesù Nuovo was originally a palace built in 1470 for Roberto Sanseverino, Prince of Salerno. Political intrigues by the Sanseverino family caused the property to be confiscated and eventually sold in the 1580s to the Jesuits for 45,000 ducats to construct a church (1584–1601) under architect Giuseppe Valeriano. Construction of the church began in 1584. The new church retained the unusual facade, originally built for the palace, faced with rustic ashlar diamond projections. The rustication of the Gesù Nuovo has, since its birth, at the behest of Roberto Sanseverino, particular symbols on the side of the small pyramids that compose it. It is said that it was created by the so-called pipernieri masters, who, in addition to being skilled manipulators of the very hard piperno stone, also possessed a deep knowledge of esoteric secrets, being able, for this reason, to charge the stone with positive energy. According to legend, therefore, this is the origin of the musical notes and archetypal symbols.

Need more information?

I perceive art like alchemy an esoteric process that allows my direct investigation into nature and matter. It is a need that urges me to share my search of inner truths. I define myself as an eclectic artist using a variety of mediums, trying to re-create and to celebrate the beauty of the many forms and colours found in nature. Intrigued by this invisible web that connects us all. I try to portray the way I see the world, a focus on the multiple layers of reality. It is very difficult for me to talk about art. I can only say that effects me on a visceral level, simply a human instinct from within. I feel compelled to examine where I fit into all of this. Is it even possible to know that?
