Painting with acrylic and print on canvas.
It is painted on canvas with an aluminum frame.

I have always greatly enjoyed being on boats. In fact, during my entire childhood, both with my grandparents as well as my father and mother, I regularly spent weekends and long holidays out on the water.

I still take several sailing trips each year. For example to the ports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, or Antwerpen. At such huge docks, my eyes often ''lock'' on these gigantic industrial tankers. I see the beauty of these impressive cargo-carrying vessels.

I try to render these tons-of-steel ocean liners very ''sec'' - as they actually are - simply to reveal their unadorned, messy, yet streamlined-and-functional elegance.

The painting comes without a frame. I always paint the sides of the work, so that the scene carries over to the edges. This way there is the option of not framing. I also wire my paintings. Thus, the work is totally finished and ready to hang.

1964, Schiedam,The Netherlands, Clara Bastian. After attending the art academy (ABK Rotterdam) Clara Bastian (1964) obtained a foundational course in biology, a study that met her fascination for anatomy. Her oeuvre consists of commission portraits as well as free work. Her free work does not only show her mastery of the trade, but above all her original view of reality. The intriguing portraits of animals and people that Clara Bastian makes are painted with great skill. With the reproduction of texture, light and shadows her work seems almost more realistic than a photograph…
