Camouflaged at Gillette Ranch, Malibu Painting

This scene of mallard ducks on the water could probably be found at many locations around the country, it just happens to be in Malibu. I often forget there are ducks in this painting when I look at it and then am pleasantly surprised! I hung this up during a public open studio event once and I overheard someone whispering to her friend that this painting was a “Monet rip off.” Ha! Ill takes that as a compliment. Monet was a post impressionistic painter in the late 1800’s and his painting philosophy is still relevant. Just like Monet, I love to be in nature and watch how the light changes my familiar surroundings and paint it.
