Candor Painting

“I find incredible beauty in objects and surfaces that are often overlooked. I am particularly drawn to things that display a certain amount of age or distress. Cracked and peeling paint, the texture of old metal, and the weathered nature of old concrete floors are just a few of the things that I find particularly alluring.” Kristin Wenc (b. 1974) is a self-taught, abstract painter who lives and works in Chicago. Her pieces develop slowly through the application of numerous layers of contrasting color using a variety of mediums and gels. Portions of many layers are often sanded down to establish an interplay between different textures and hues. Where she used to work solely on board, Kristin is now exploring how her pieces shift in both mood and appearance when the surface is changed to canvas or aluminum. Her work is currently on display in three states and is featured in volumes 44 and 46 of Studio Visit magazine.
