About The Artwork

When I made this painting series I was highly influenced by Gothe's greatest work Faust. The beginning of the second part of this great book there was a description about weak looking creatures which they try to build a sutructure yet they continue to fail. I usually walk around junk yards, construction or demolition areas, streets and to get an insprition. Also I collect images from old magazines or old films. I manipulate, change these images and transfer on another surfaces. Carnivalesque are based on photographs which I took from a car scrap yard back in Istanbul. It was interesting area because of it was just next to newly building motorway and football stadium. I took pictures from this place and make small size collages from these photographs. When I try to reflect on a bigger size paper it changed completely. Then I decided to make all series with only spray paint. It came out with expressionist abstract forms. For someone who see these paintings, they will look like organic machines, with solid forms.

I am a visual artist from Turkey, born and grew up in istanbul. I am currently living and working in London,UK. I have been using different mediums and methods for my projects. which including photograph, painting, drawing, sculpture and video art. The mediums I am using mostly follows conceptual subjects. I am exploring problems of the metropolis, such as gentrification and re-construction of the urban areas, identity and communication for example news and commercials. Due to the fact that I have grew up in a ghetto district of Istanbul, I am drawn to produce art related to the contrasts of developing and adverts. My studies and research into these problems have made me ask new questions which has sharpened and clarified my ideas. This has resulted in me as starting to use humorous language within the art. I save different images and collect objects from the streets, junkyards, books, magazines and films. Juxtaposing something familiar I incorporate these images into my work. As my work emerges I demonstrate the unstable circumstances of daily life. During my education I influenced by the artists such as Edwar munch, Matheww barney,Cengiz Cekil and Sarah Sze. The act of making art for me is already exciting and should continue in the same way, as well as providing a starting point. You can spend much time conceptualizing and over thinking, however it is usually in the actual making and the process where something spontaneous occurs, that you had no idea was going on; when that happens it is very interesting. Even though lots of ridiculous and shocking circumstances surround us, making this intervening and transforming process visible for people is what I want to do.
