The human form and skeleton INSPIRED THIS WORK. These sculpturaly exquisite calcium cathedrals of ours are inhabited originally by us–our organs, the food we eat, and our souls. Eventually, when we move on to what we hope is a better place and no longer need them, I fantasize that they get recycled (as would any good dwelling), and are occupied by and provide shelter for other creatures just like they did for us. That is my concept for this painting, Except for our bones, we are made up of really soft, viscous materials and water. We need our bones in order to stand upright; from an artist’s perspective, we need these pieces of osseous matter in order to have shape. I hope VIEWERS will find beauty in places they never before thought to look and also that they will sense the bond between nature and humanity when they view the skeleton providing a home-indeed a cathedral-for all of nature's creatures. TECHNICAL MATTERS: I painted on a small linen canvas with bright acrylic pigment to support my thesis: beauty of the human body. I kept the rendering of the skeleton realistic to express it's wonderful complex sculptural qualities. Far from being scary, the human skeleton is a beautiful structure which allows us to stand upright. Without it, we would be a mass of shapeless organs lying on the floor. Now, that would be scary! The painting is shipped framed and ready to hang.

As a painter, I am an explorer, uncovering, recording and rearranging the beauty of the natural world, as well as the beauty of human beings. I select and distill the very essence of my subject, harmony between nature and humanity, sometimes combining the two. This symbiosis makes the finished work even more beautiful than either of its constituents alone. When you first visit my fantasy world, you will notice a lot of extraordinary things going on in my paintings. For instance, I might substitute a bird for a hat, or a butterfly for a bowtie. These unusual substitutions function as symbols and provide subtle clues and playful suggestions about my work. The shapes of birds and hats, or butterflies and bowties, are so similar that viewers never even question the replacements. I pick the substitutes because they fit graphically and visually. But it is more than that. We as humans fit with nature. We fit together so well, in fact, that I am able to paint a natural object–a butterfly–in place of the bowtie–and viewers can see this as truth. My world will refresh you with its vibrant colors, textures, and interchangeable shapes as you immerse yourself in the integration of nature and humanity. You will be at peace with yourself and at one with nature. You will experience nature in a totally new way and see beauty in places where you never before thought to look.
