About The Artwork

This is one in a series of color skull paintings. Iridescent paint is used so the stenciled images are as all alike and as individually different as any person. The shimmer of color that the coated mica particles add to the image make it difficult to photograph since they shimmers and change with the lightening and the position of the viewer.

Born in North Carolina, Chad Griffin moved to the American Southwest in his teens. He earned his Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona. Griffin has spent his life as an explorer and a visual artist, periodically leaving for months at a time to mountaineer and travel in as diverse climes as New Zealand, Alaska, North Africa, Patagonia and the Andes. Currently he lives and works in Manhattan. Griffin uses form, color and painted words in his artwork to invoke thought and to mythologize life in the modern world. He has had shows of his paintings, produced several books, been a featured artist in the Point Suite Contemporary Art book and worked in advertising and communication design. Griffin is equally fluent with technology and the traditional tools of the artist. He believes that modernity has hit a tipping point and that the revival of the hand of the artist in the work has returned to the dialog. He is allied with the poets.
