About The Artwork
Mixed media on velvet (acrylic, glass, print). 113 x 130 x 10 cm (dimensions variable. Year 2008. There are two printed glasses attached to the painting (my velvet dress used as painting canvas): one intact, one broken to pieces. The intact one has a fungus on its front, and, on its back, the Latin names of the most typical fungi species growing in Kozuv Mt. The broken glass has handwritten notes of locations and trees where the fungi had been found and the altitudes.

Kristina Zimbakova (1975) is a Macedonian painter, creating symbolic and figurative mixed-media paintings with rich texture. Her art practice is interdisciplinary: poetry references along with fungi and lichens as media are major features of her work. The fungi originate from habitats from all over the world, obtained from dry collections or during personal forays in collaboration with bio-scientists. She also creates handmade fungal paper artworks.
