About The Artwork

Original painting of cherry blossoms, made with Japanese ink and watercolours on beige Chinese rice paper. Cherry blossoms are one of my favourite subjects to paint any time of the year. There is something very touching in the annual blossoming of cherry trees in spring. The petals will inevitably fall off, but the flowers will show up again next year, come spring. This particular artwork is done in a more freestyle manner, more about the colour, transparency of flowers and the sense of fleeting beauty. Sakura is a national flower of Japan. It is very popular and highly symbolic. Sakura symbolise the end of winter, spring, new life, and fleeting beauty. Cherry blossom viewing festival, though originating from the Japanese custom, has become a popular event in many countries. The painting is my tribute to the beauty of spring and lovely cherry blossoms. The painting is signed, sealed, wet-mounted on backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. It is manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Please note that small creases may form due to the nature of the paper. Colours may differ due to differences in devices.

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
